Hornchurch controlled much of the first half and deservedly went into half-time ahead courtesy of a George Purcell penalty but Barking rallied in the second period and equalised midway through the half to take home a share of the spoils.

BARKING 1 HORNCHURCH 1
After missing several chances in the first half, Hornchurch had to be content with a single goal lead though a George Purcell penalty, and then had to settle for a point after Barking came back strongly in the second half.
The pitch passed a morning inspection but was very soft, and both teams had difficulty in coping with the strong downfield wind.
Hornchurch had an early scoring opportunity when Matthias Fanimo outpaced Ricky Tarbard and crossed low into the middle, only for Emmanuel Olajide to cut out the cross as George Purcell moved in.
A wind-assisted Barking moved resulted in a corner, but Abs Seymour floated the ball across goal and out for a goal kick.
Fanimo won a corner after another powerful run along the left, and Brad Warner sent the ball deep into the goalmouth where Jed Chouman fired over the bar from close range.
Sam Mott needed attention when going down at the feet of Kiernan Hughes-Mason, who escaped with a booking, and Mott was again in action a minute later, saving well from Martin Tuohy.
Billy Jones then sent a free kick straight at Mott, before Hornchurch came back strongly, when Fanimo again opened up the home defence, and crossed to Warner, but his shot was cleared off the line and scrambled away to safety.
Purcell won a free kick out on the left and Warner’s free kick was headed away by Hussain Jaffa, who then became the centre of the referee’s attention when he brought down George Purcell who was in full flight towards goal. Jaffa was booked, and Purcell sent the penalty hard into the net, although Olajide managed to get a hand to the ball, but could not prevent it from entering the net.
Close to half time, Hornchurch had a let-off when a shot came back off the bar into the waiting hands of Sam Mott.
Hornchurch looked in command for the first ten minutes of the second half, and could have increased their lead when Warner fed the ball out to Fanimo, whose crossed found Nathan Livings, but he sent the ball over the bar from close range.
Barking came a lot more into the game, without really threatening the Hornchurch defence, and it was Hornchurch who should have put the result beyond doubt when Purcell, deep inside his own half, sent an excellent ball though to Warner, only for Olajide to turn the shot around the post for a corner.
Hornchurch then had to defend in depth and Barking drew level when Mott could only parry a hard shot from the right and Tiob Adeyemi was quick to follow up to place the loose ball into the net.
Leon McKenzie was booked a minute later, and Hornchurch had just one more scoring chance, when Warner played the ball inside to Purcell, but his shot was too high and over the bar.
Barking continued to have the better of the territorial play, without offering any real threat, and Hornchurch had another chance in the final few seconds of stoppage time, when Alex Bentley played the ball into the middle, but there was no one able to get the final touch.
