Saturday 15th September 2007 – FAC CFC – Bobby Smith – Dean Fenton – Glen Parry – Scott Honeyball – Simon Peddie – Lee Allen – David Hicks – Steve Obeng © - George Gregoriou – Harry Hunt – Michael Dene Scorers – Harry Elmes 18, 88 – Kris Lee 72 – Steve Obeng 45+1 (C) HORNCHURCH 3 CHESHUNT 1 Harry Elmes starting in place of Kris Lee, and Richard Goddard able to take his usual spot at centre half after passing a late fitness test. The new strip was on sale and long queues built up at the club shop, with Biased Bob first in lime to get the one and only away keepers’ strip – he looked an absolute picture. And newly in were the black socks – buy the left sock and you got the right sock free. Cheshunt brought a few supporters down with them, and they were heard to remark that this was the best ground they had ever visited. In neo-tropical conditions Urchins kicked off towards the windmill end of the ground. Glen Parry crept up unnoticed to head a Hicks’ free kick inches over the bar, but Urchins took the lead thanks to some clever midfield interpassing, which culminated with Simon Parker touching on to HARRY ELMES who earned the praise of the EastSide with his excellent finish. Urchins, with the roars from the EastSide reverberating around the ground, were rampant, and David Lee hit a shot narrowly wide, but back came Cheshunt, Gregoriou winning the ball and crossing to Dene whose header was just over the bar. Janney took a Purdie pass and made a long run on the right wing, where Parry tackled to concede a corner, which Keith floated over and Elmes headed goalwards, with Fenton popping up to head off the line. Bostock timed a headed pass to perfection to Simon Parker, who ran on and shot, only for Smith to make another excellent save. Janney again, sending Parker away clear down the middle, and only a hotly disputed offside flag saved the day for Cheshunt. The EastSide kept up an incessant roar, and Elmes played Parker clear, only for Smith to dive at his feet to save yet again. In a rare Cheshunt attack Fenton hit a free kick over the bar and towards the restaurant end. Parker won the ball midfield, turned and slipped a pass to Keith, took the return and was thwarted by Smith’s diving save, whilst Elmes won a free kick which Keith took and Smith saved again. In the second minute of stoppage time, Janney lost possession near to the half way line and Cheshunt came forward, with STEVE OBENG running on and hitting his shot home via the crossbar to give the visitors a surprise goal, and sending their supporters into raptures. At half time Max whispered the result of the jackpot and one lucky Urchin went home £100 to the good. The new strip was selling rapidly and so were the new club badges. But Cheshunt on a Tuesday night did not appeal in the least, even though the M25 / A10 sliproad is now open again, after nearly two years, so with Urchins now kicking towards the restaurant end, goals were wanted, and quick. And the big question – who was the ex-Urchin playing for Cheshunt? And it looked like a goal was coming inside a couple of minutes when Harry Elmes put Simon Parker clear, and he rounded the keeper, only to screw the ball wide from a narrow angle. Then Joe Keith chipped the ball on to Parker, who in turn chipped the keeper but the ball landed on the roof of the net. Cheshunt briefly threatened, Fenton playing a long pass up to Gregoriou who tried to lob Brightly, the ball landing on the roof of the net. A Hicks corner was headed away by Goddard, whilst at the other end a Keith corner was headed away by Peddie, and Lee Allen saw his pass out to Gregoriou intercepted by Glozier. Then it was back down the other end, and Elmes saw his shot from the right cleared by Fenton. Kris Lee came on for Simon Parker and was almost put clear by Janney. It took a good tackle by Goddard to stop Gregoriou who had run on to Allen’s pass, and from the corner which resulted, Purdie headed away. Kris Lee was now causing the visiting defence some concern, and it was his pass which put Janney away, and a corner resulted, which David Lee took and KRIS LEE headed home. Two nil but not enough to relax. Glozier to David Lee, and from the centre Kris Lee saw Smith save well yet again. Andy Tomlinson came on and sent a good pass to Kris Lee who crossed into an empty goalmouth and there was no one to touch home. Then it was Kris Lee to Tomlinson, and Andy cut in and hammered in a hard shot which Smith saved brilliantly. A minute later it was Smith again, this time diving to stop Kris Lee’s goalbound shot. The third goal came when Kris Lee found himself clear on the left and he turned to send HARRY ELMES away, and the ball screamed into the net. And almost a fourth when Kris Lee went through but was brought down and David Lee’s free kick was saved by the inspired Smith. In the second minute of stoppage time Harry Elmes was almost through but was stopped by a wild tackle from David Hicks. As Harry Elmes was receiving treatment, the EastSide called loudly for the red card and the referee obliged. All over, three one, two thousand pounds in the bank, everyone happy. Player of the match, nominated by Serious Sid, was Harry Elmes. And who was the ex-Urchin? Lee Allen, who played five matches in 04/05, making his debut at Dorchester, and then getting a red card in his next match. |
