This is the first in a series of updates from the AFCH Supporters’ Association. We’ll be discussing what we’ve done so far, what’s going on at the moment and what we have in the pipeline.
Firstly, I would like to thank everyone for their continued support of the AFCHSA. In this column, I would like to tell you what we have been doing as a Supporters Association so far this season and our goals for the future.
What we have done so far
This season, we as a Supporters Association, embarked on our biggest challenge yet to improve/refurbish the facilities of the stadium, which some are in great need of repair.
We have started the process in the close-season by repainting the Eastside Terracing panels and the Riverside stand (now re-named the “Colin McBride Stand”). We have also added Hornchurch Crests to most of the pitch exit gates which will hopefully be completed by the end of the season which have improved the appearance of the ground.
In the clubhouse, we have bought a new 50” inch HD TV for club which will hopefully see more people in the before the game to watch the live football on BT Sport. Following discussions with the club, we have also now have polypins available at most home games for you real ale fanatics priced at £3.50 a pint. We are also very pleased to confirm that all pints shall be served in glass until 30 minutes before kick-off.
The club website has received a major upgrade and many thanks to Andy Dickinson for the time and effort he has put in to make this happen.
We carried out our first ever ‘OrnchurchFest – The Urchin Beer Festival in October and was a huge success. Many thanks once again to everyone who supported this event and we are looking to confirm a date for next season in the near future.
Following Jimmy’s fantastic achievement of reaching 400 games with the club, we carried out a presentation to Jimmy with a trophy to celebrate this milestone. This was presented to him before the Ware game in December.
We are planning to continue our ground improvement works this season and into the long term future. Our next goal is to refurbish “Hasbeen’s Hill” at the clubhouse end of the ground. This shall take a lot of hard work and will probably commence at some point in the Spring. We will need to some bodies to help us, so if you could volunteer it would be greatly appreciated.
We are also looking to repair the TV gantry at some point in the near future. This shall hopefully be carried out in spring/summer time as well.
We also have more tasks that need carrying out, but it is a long term process and shall be completed over a period of time, with funds dictating.
Your continued support at our events and participating in our schemes contributes to us carrying out this work.
We are pleased to announce that our first ever Casino Night will be held at the clubhouse on Saturday 18th March with tickets priced at £10.00 per person or 2 for £15.00 if you wish to bring your partner along. Doors for the event shall open at 7.30pm with a winner taking a prize at the end of the night.
Please note that a dress code will be enforced with smart wear only. No denim or trainers will be allowed at the event.
Soul Entertainment will be performing live at the club on Saturday 28th January. Covering soul hits from the 50’s and 60’s right up to modern day soul artists it’ll be a guaranteed fantastic evening. Tickets are £5 each and available from the club. Buffet included.
Colin Burford shall be continuing with the 59 club again and shall be re-commencing at point in mid-February. Please note, due to logistical issues, this year only direct bank transfers will be accepted.
Family Fun Day
On the last game of the season at home v Bowers & Pitsea, we are planning to have a family fun day at the club. Further details shall be released in the due course.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone on the behalf of the committee, a very happy new year and hopefully a very successful 2017.
Thanks for your support.
