We added to our long run of away defeats and although from very early on it was clear that things were not going to go our way there was an exciting end to the game and some brief hope that we might nick something from the game.

Andy Tomlinson received a caution seven minutes in for allegedly diving inside the area when many were expecting a spot kick, and to make matters worse a harshly awarded free kick in the 19th minute at the other end was driven low and hard past Micky Desborough by Ben Walshe from 25yards to put the home side in front.  Matt Glynn shot into the side netting from an acute angle on 27 minutes after a good move but it was soon 2-0 when a great run from Lee Clarke finished with his shot from the edge of the area which beat the dive of Desborough.

Clarke nearly doubled his tally 9 minutes into the second half when he volleyed against the crossbar from 18 yards but the third goal eventually came on the hour when a Matt Hann shot was blocked by Desborough, but only into the path of Kezie Ibe who tapped home from 3 yards.  Chris Stowe pulled a goal back for us in the 76th minute following a great move involving Grant Cooper and Andy Douglas and there was a glimmer of hope.  A minute later, though, a cracking volley from Matt Hann put St Albans back in command.  Stowe scored his second with 10 minutes to go, a low drive from 18 yards, to give us a bit more to cheer about but Saints fans were left biting their nails in the dying seconds when a Jamie Southon tackle on a defender wide on the edge of the penalty area somehow spun past Paul Bastock in the St Albans goal and into the corner of the net.

The game was restarted quickly but Saints managed to maintain their composure and play out the final seconds.
