Despite the fact that we had chances to win this game against a weakened Hayes side, it was a good point all the same.

Hayes were not really in it in the first half and we took the lead in the 19th minutes when Danny Shipp rifled in a free-kick from about 25 yards out.  A further great chance came 2 minutes before the interval when Martin Vrhovski shot narrowly over after Andy Douglas chested down an Adam Locke free kick.

Hayes started the second half with rather more purpose, presumably after a stiff talking to, and equalised on 50 minutes when a long free kick into the area was nodded down into the path of Dwane Williams who had time to steady himself to volley home. Within two minutes though we had the chance to go back in front when we were awarded a penalty after Jamie Southon was held down, but Danny Shipp's spot kick was saved.  Another narrow squeak for the home side came on the hour when Terry Bowes just lost out to a race for a loose ball inside the 6 yard area after some uncertainty in the Hayes defence.  A Douglas turn and shot from 18 yards went just over on 63 minutes and Hayes found the net again on 66 minutes but it was ruled out for a foul on Micky Desborough.  A chance for either side to win it came in the closing stages, Richard O'Conner denied by a fingertip round the post from Kevin Davies on 82 minutes and Stuart Tanfield blasting over from a far post free kick when well placed two minutes later.
