Our first point in our new era and one which was fully deserved.

It was not a great start, though, and St Albans took the lead after only 5 minutes through Lee Clarke.  We struggled to get into the game and St Albans came close to extending their lead when an Adam Parker header from a corner hit the foot of the post.  Things looked brighter for us towards the end of the half and we went close ourselves when a Danny Shipp free kick from 20 yards curled just wide.

The second half was much better but with St Albans desparate to hold onto some valuable points it was hard going.  Chris Carruthers shot over at the far post from a Jean-Michel Sigere cross early on and Sigere also went close on the hour with a diving header with Carruthers this time the provider.  Our equaliser came with 15 minutes to go when visiting keeper Paul Bastock failed to hold on to a Shipp free kick after which the ball hit Saints defender Chris Zoricich and bounced in.  The visitors could have regained their lead in the 83rd minute when Nick Roddis got clear of our defence but he dragged the ball across the goal and wide under pressure from Scott Gooding.

The misery continued for St Albans with 5 minutes to go when defender Dean Hooper was given his second yellow card of the evening which, like the first, was for dissent.  In the dying minutes Sigere was guilty of an amazing miss when, two yards out and unmarked at the far post, he failed to make any contact with a ball driven across goal from Danny Shipp, although an offside flag may have followed had he done so.
