A sixth successive League victory for the Urchins but for long spells Carshalton looked a very confident side for one with only one league win under their belts so far, and for a while they looked likely to get something out of the game.

The game started with a head scratching event when, in the first minute, the referee appeared to award a penalty to the home side for a handball but reversed his decision after consulting with his assistant. Apparently the handball was by a Carshalton player and not a Hornchurch one.  A rather tame first half produced few chances for either side and after Lee Elam shot across goal from a good position after 6 minutes he finally found the target in the 20th minute after making space for himself on the edge of the area and curling a shot past Carshalton keeper Stuart Searle.

The home side went close almost straight from the kick-off when a far post free kick was blasted over the bar from close range from Danny Carroll. A Kirk Jackson lob from a long goal kick four minutes later just missed the target and a strong surging run from Elam two minutes later from half-way finished with his shot against the stanchion behind the goal.  Nic McDonnell wasted another good chance for Carshalton on 58 minutes and 10 minutes later a low cross from Sam Saunders flashed across the face of the goal.  With 15 minutes left a long range effort from Marlon Patterson rose just over the bar and 4 minutes later Carshalton came the closest to scoring when a Patterson free kick was headed against the crossbar by Mark Costello.  Things were made worse for the home side when we were awarded a free kick just outside the area and Darren Caskey curled a superb shot into the far corner.
